let map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById(\"kb-google-map5644_e2889fd8\"), {\n\t\t\t\t\t    zoom: 11,\n\t\t\t\t\t    center: center,});let marker = new google.maps.Marker({   position: { lat: 37.8201, lng: -122.4781},    map: map,  });}<\/script>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">The lake looked exciting from the very first moment.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Somewhere in the middle of nowhere in France.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">It seemed to be hiding something, and not just because of its unusual shape.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">So we looked for an AirBNB and one of the providers advertised their accommodation with a picture of the Donon massif and the Temple Mount, among other things.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">When we saw this, we knew immediately that we had to go there and that we definitely wanted to visit this point in the Lower Vosges.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The picture of this historic place in France is picturesque in summer at sunset and I think it arouses the curiosity of everyone who sees it.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">No sooner said than done.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">We looked for suitable accommodation and traveled to this beautiful and inviting region on the cultural border of Alsace-Lorraine.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Where exactly is Donon in Alsace?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The Donon lies at the heart of the Donon massif and forms a natural intersection between three d\u00e9partements in the Grand Est region:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Bas-Rhin (Lower Rhine) in Alsace, as well as Vosges (Vosges) and Meurthe-et-Moselle (Meurthe and Moselle) in Lorraine in eastern France.<\/p>\n<style>.kb-google-maps-container5644_c69ea9-16{height:450px;}<\/style><div class=\"kb-google-maps-container kb-google-maps-container5644_c69ea9-16  wp-block-kadence-googlemaps\" data-mapid=\"5644_c69ea916\"><iframe width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tstyle=\"border:0\" loading=\"lazy\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tsrc=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed\/v1\/place?key=AIzaSyBAM2o7PiQqwk15LC1XRH2e_KJ-jUa7KYk&#038;zoom=11&#038;maptype=roadmap&#038;q=petit+donon\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\ttitle=\"Google map of petit donon\"><\/iframe><\/div><script>function kb_google_map5644_c69ea916() { let center = { lat: 37.8201, lng: -122.4781}; Even today, the mountain marks a geographical and cultural border between Alsace and Lorraine. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The summit location also offers a wide panoramic view over all three d\u00e9partements.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">  On clear days, the view extends from the Bruche valley to the Lorraine plain.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">This makes the Donon not only a popular hiking destination, but also a place of spiritual and strategic importance.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Journey to the mountain in the Vosges<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The best way to reach the Donon massif is to drive your car to the Donon parking lot.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">There is not map of the area and sanitary facilities, which makes the parking lot an ideal starting point for the trip.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Before we take you to the mountain and its special impressions and moods, I would like to explain one more thing.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">This story I&#8217;m telling you today is about the temple in the snow and what I think is its special effect against the backdrop of the snow and ice of the Vosges mountains.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Of course, if you visit at a different time of year, your real impression may be completely different.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Even though I think it will always retain its uniqueness and is always worth the trip.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The first steps on the sacred Mount Donon<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">From the Col du Donon parking lot past the wooden houses, there are several historic hiking trails that lead up to or around the summit of the Petit Donon.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-ce5860c8 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Donon-Vogesen-2024%E2%80%93-Wandern-auf-dem-Berg-der-gefrorenen-Winde-3-1024x461.webp\" alt=\"Donon Vosges 2024- Hiking on the middle, even though it immediately draws our attention with a steep ascent.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The trees and edges of the path are covered in snow and as we take our first steps, the reddish-brown of the loamy ground shimmers out from under the snow.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Right at the start, we are grateful for our good footwear.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The angle is steep, as if this path would lead straight to the top.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">So we walk carefully uphill, step by step, as we pass rows of snow-covered conifers in Alsace in winter.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-f0095523 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" about this place that can be felt from the first few meters down here.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Everything seems quiet, as if the sounds of the world stop before the massif rises.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Even the birds that sometimes fly past us seem to move almost silently.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">All you can hear is a rustling sound as they plunge into the treetops.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">All you can hear is the rustling of your own boots in the snow and the soft sound of your own breathing.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-9cfdb67c wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" and fresher the air becomes.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">You have the feeling that this air comes from a distant time before factories and industry, so clear and fresh does it pass through your lungs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">But it is also cool and you notice that it gets cooler with every step up the path through the dense forest.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Even on the first small intermediate plateau, the snow and slush lying around has turned into a closed and frozen blanket of snow, interrupted only by the holes of stomping feet on the forest path.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The half circular route and the witnesses of history<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">At this major fork, we keep to the right on a path through the dense forest, which promises a lot of relaxation.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-ed92033a but flattens out a little and runs straight along the side of the mountain as a forest path.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">From time to time, I had slight doubts about how to climb the mountain when it was only flat and straight ahead, but no longer uphill.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">But the flat also has its beautiful sides.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">You navigate in a slalom between fallen trees and overhanging bushes and even pass tree lines that turn the whole thing into an adventure tour.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-9ea738c7 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure think about the rich history of this place.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">In both world wars, this place was the scene of French and German history.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">A place of struggle<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Germans and French fought over this mountain, its strategic location and the distant view from the summit of the Donon massif.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-ecced71a wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Donon-Vogesen-2024%E2%80%93Wandern-auf-dem-Berg-der-gefrorenen-Winde08-461x1024.webp\" alt=\"Donon Vosges 2024- Hiking on the for a moment and imagine myself as a soldier lying behind one of the many trees and rocky outcrops, waiting for the next battle.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Or how I hid from the advancing German occupiers as a resistance fighter in the Resistance during the Second World War.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">It is hard to believe that battles for life and death took place in this peaceful place, which radiates such serenity and tranquillity and where you feel in harmony with nature.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-77858d91 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Donon-Vogesen-2024%E2%80%93Wandern-auf-dem-Berg-der-gefrorenen-Winde09-1024x461.webp\" alt=\"Donon Vosges 2024- Hiking on the role=\"img\"><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">It doesn&#8217;t seem to fit in with this place in the slightest, or even belong here.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Because here you have the feeling of moving further away from everyday life and your routines, worries and thoughts with every step upwards.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">You will also notice markings and signs throughout the area as you hike.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">After the battles of the First World War, the German commander commissioned one of his soldiers, a stonemason, to place these markings on the so-called Path of the Stelae as a memorial to the fallen French and German soldiers.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-d554c9d7 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Donon-Vogesen-2024%E2%80%93-Wandern-auf-dem-Berg-der-gefrorenen-Winde-2-1024x461.webp\" alt=\"Donon Vosges 2024- Hiking on the fallen, no matter which banner they followed.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The snow gets deeper with every step and the cold, which slowly creeps into our clothes around our feet, brings us back to reality.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The location of the station and the assembly of the figures<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">By now we have been walking straight ahead for quite some time, with only a minimal gradient, when the path leads us over a steeper rocky passage onto a large plateau.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-70b7b60c wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" place.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Maybe it was, or maybe it is today.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">In my opinion, these portraits bear witness to important events, beautiful celebrations and therefore to life itself.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The Temple Mount of Donon<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">We turn around and get ready for the last few meters to our destination on the stony path to the Donon and its highest point.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-e8411846 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" summit of the Donon appears above us on the right.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">We overcome the last few meters and stand on the plateau of the temple, which rises up to the horizon to light of the sun, surrounded by snow at an altitude of 1009 meters.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The stone looks gray-black, but even the darkness of its exterior creates a sparkle through the ice that covers it, making it look to me as if it had grown directly from the stone of the mountain.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">My impressions and thoughts on the Temple of Donon<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">I hesitate for a moment and imagine myself back in the history of this place.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-1fa882fa wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"has-text-align-center\">The Romans dedicated this place to the god Mercury, and it is of course &#8220;only&#8221; an imitation of an ancient temple.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">But that didn&#8217;t matter to me, because its special impression and also its significance are preserved for me by this symbol, which is already over 150 years old, in the replica.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The summit plateau of Donon<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The temple is completely accessible and also wars around this strategically important point in the east of France.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-99119f18 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default
