Modica?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Modica was on my bucket list when I visited Sicily at the beginning of the year because there is something very special here, which I will come to in a moment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a fan of beautiful architecture, it was also a must for me to visit the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto. Sometimes they are probably touristy, but not everyone has these places on their radar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The situation and significance in Italy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Modica is a free Sicilian town in the Ragusa region in the southern part of the island.  <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<div \n\t\t\tclass=\"wp-block-uagb-google-map uagb-google-map__wrap uagb-block-ba869e5c     \"\n\t\t\tstyle=\"\" >\n\t\t\t\t<embed\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"uagb-google-map__iframe\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttitle=\"Google Map for \"\n\t\t\t\t\tsrc=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=Modica%20Italien&#038;z=12&#038;hl=en&#038;t=m&#038;output=embed&#038;iwloc=near\"\n\t\t\t\t\twidth=\"640\"\n\t\t\t\t\theight=\"300\"\n\t\t\t\t\tloading=\"lazy\"\n\t\t\t\t><\/embed>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\n\n<p>It is one of the eight Baroque towns of the Val di Noto, also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The town is enclosed in a 13 km long gorge, which is why the houses occupy the slopes and surrounding elevations as well as the lower part of the gorge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several overland roads that lead to Modica. However, a university or airport can only be found in Catania, about an hour away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It nestles almost picturesquely in this gorge and immediately won me over. My pictures should give you an impression of it right away. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-1b561f91 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Modica6-1024x461.webp ,https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Modica6-jpg.webp 780w, https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Modica6-jpg.webp 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 150px\" src=\"https:\/\/florian-schreibt.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Modica6-1024x461.webp\" alt=\"Modica und seine versteckten UNESCO Welterbe Sch\u00e4tze auf Sizilien in Italien Schokolade und die Marina di Modica\" class=\"uag-image-4802\" width=\"1200\" height=\"540\" title=\"Modica6\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"img\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The general color of the houses is bright and conveys an open and friendly atmosphere, which of course really came into its own in the beautiful weather I had during my visit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The small roads at higher altitudes do not always make it easy to get around by car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I did a lot of walking and thanks to the almost innate calmness of the people, you can always make good progress in Modica by &#8220;live and let live&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-lndwnvcg alignwide uagb-is-root-container\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-oz6ttzyg\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container uagb-block-knllcwx3\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-info-box uagb-block-glxxseuy uagb-infobox__content-wrap  uagb-infobox-icon-above-title uagb-infobox-image-valign-top Blocksatz\"><div class=\"uagb-ifb-content\"><div class=\"uagb-ifb-title-wrap\"><h2 class=\"uagb-ifb-title\">The cold sweetness&#8230;<\/h2><\/div><p class=\"uagb-ifb-desc\">What makes Modica so unique is its chocolate. <br><br>Yes, that&#8217;s right, its chocolate. <br><br>Modica is famous for its unique chocolate.<br><br>If you&#8217;re wondering why exactly chocolate, here&#8217;s the answer.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Chocolate from Modica is like a little trip back in time for your taste buds!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine biting into a piece that is made almost exactly as it was in Aztec times &#8211; no kidding!  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The processing of this chocolate is a very special art that is still practiced and strictly controlled in Modica today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But what actually makes Modica chocolate so unique?  <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The texture has bite<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The chocolate is not overheated, but processed at low temperatures, i.e. &#8220;cold pressed&#8221;. sins, let&#8217;s take a look at the historic buildings and sights in Modica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is noticeable that almost all of the large and eye-catching buildings were built in the late Baroque style.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In my opinion, this uniform image of the buildings creates a harmonious atmosphere, as everything seems to be interwoven and connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div the church of San Pietro is located right in the lower town on Corso Umberto I, this building was the first thing that caught my eye.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At first, it looks somewhat inconspicuous from the side, until you pass the last neighboring buildings and come to the square where the Cathedral of San Pietro stands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-05a0f023 were the beautiful sculptures on the staircase depicting St. Peter and other figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next thing you notice is the staircase with wide steps leading up to the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The imposing fa\u00e7ade with its monumental staircase, which has 250 steps, leads to a magnificent interior decorated with stucco work, frescoes and elaborate altars. artistically designed windows immediately catch the eye and are definitely worth a second look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Museo del Cioccolato di Modica<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Where there is of chocolate production and the history of cocoa in Sicily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The presentation of traditional craftsmanship, in which chocolate is processed at low temperatures without the sugar melting, is particularly exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is located in the building of the former Monastero dei Benedettini (Benedictine monastery).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-container saved the best for last and for our ramble, that&#8217;s the right place to start.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if I&#8217;ve already anticipated Sabadi, there&#8217;s another sight to see if you make the steep start from the town up to the higher altitudes to Modica Alta, as I did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-35665759 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" Giorgio stands majestically on the hill of the upper town, visible almost all the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This staircase, which leads to it and consists of 100 steps from the street, leads to an impressive portal and symbolizes the ascent to something sacred and sublime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-e255a16f wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" of the impressive front of the cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is also in the Baroque style and blends into the cityscape in terms of color, as it was rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1693.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-18691696 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure interesting products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-20e5cdb9 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure talking about souvenirs, which are of course also widely available.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No. I also found lots of interesting little things. However, the Marina di Modica is not a typical marina with a harbor for fishing boats or yachts.   <\/p>\n\n\n\t\t\t<div \n\t\t\tclass=\"wp-block-uagb-google-map uagb-google-map__wrap uagb-block-ebf24d05     \"\n\t\t\tstyle=\"\" >\n\t\t\t\t<embed\n\t\t\t\t\tclass=\"uagb-google-map__iframe\"\n\t\t\t\t\ttitle=\"Google Map for \"\n\t\t\t\t\tsrc=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?q=marina%20di%20modica&#038;z=12&#038;hl=en&#038;t=m&#038;output=embed&#038;iwloc=near\"\n\t\t\t\t\twidth=\"640\"\n\t\t\t\t\theight=\"300\"\n\t\t\t\t\tloading=\"lazy\"\n\t\t\t\t><\/embed>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\n\n\n<p>There are primarily beaches, vacation homes and a promenade. The town is known for water sports such as surfing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-100af8b2 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static highly recommended for lovely walks on the beach and beautiful sunsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hotels in the city of 100 churches<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a tourist region, Sicily naturally offers many interesting places and sites for a pleasant stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also saw some interesting buildings that house hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For myself, I can say that I appreciate the freedom and independence on vacation, which is why an Airbnb was our first choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-07c37811 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" the hill or the church of Santa Maria del ges\u00f9, even though I was unfortunately unable to visit them during my visit due to time constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you for your attention and
